Donuts vs mulch: residents vote

We put out 6 rakes and 24 donuts for Saturday’s Mulch & Mingle; the rakes stayed spotless, the donuts didn’t, and I still ended up spreading 12 bags myself. Next round I’m thinking a 20‑minute cleanup followed by a coffee chat on the green — what’s worked for you to turn donut‑eaters into mulch‑spreaders without killing the vibe?

, same here — my rakes looked brand new while I hauled bags. What finally worked: a “20-minute cleanup” sprint with a big timer and name tags at check-in; anyone who logs one bag or 10 minutes gets a raffle ticket for a $25 coffee card, then we do the coffee chat on the green. Small caveat: hold the donuts till the sprint ends so they’re a reward — would you try timer + raffle next round?

We set up a claim-a-plot board: 12 chalk squares on the lawn; grab one, spread a bag, get a donut ticket and your name on the board — spectators turned into helpers fast. @jadams70 your timer would amp it, but cap it at 20 so it doesn’t drag; would you try that?

We tried a rolling donut wagon: during the “20-minute cleanup” we put the donuts on a cart that only stops where the next 3 bags need spreading, and you grab one after you dump a bag. It kept the vibe light and people followed the sugar trail; I’d add a small bell so folks hear it move, but stash a few water jugs at the pile so no one overheats — think that’d work on your green?
